Basic obedience training is highly recommended for all whippets and whippet owners. If you find obedience classes enjoyable and successful, you might want to consider going the next step and entering in AKC obedience trials. At the beginning levels, these include precision heeling on and off leash, stays, and recalls. At the advanced levels, the exercises also include jumps, retrieves, hand signals, and scent discrimination. By receiving three qualifying scores at the appropriate level, your dog can earn titles such as CD (Companion Dog), CDX (Companion Dog Excellent), and UD (Utility Dog). The NCWFA encourages participation in competitive obedience and thus conducts an Obedience Trial as part of our annual Specialty Show. This year we have some very special classes to offer our obedience boosters. Pre-Novice, which is all "on leash" work (perfect for your whippets who are not quite ready for off-lead work), and Veterans, for the over seven set.
