Field Trial Secretary's Report

Lure coursers and their people had a swell time in Paicines, CA last weekend at NCWFA's first ASFA trial in some time.

We shared the weekend with BARRC, members of which had located what turned out to be an outstanding field - large, irrigated, fenced and "manicured" by sheep which left it with super footing for the dogs.

We had three first class judges: our own Christie Beetz and from southern California Patric Abaravich and Mary Ann Armbruster. Pharaoh Hound maven Greg Witt did his usual great job as lure operator as did club member Bruce Beetz. Sue McNeill from BARCC helped with huntmastering duties as well as consultant to our trial secretary (me) regarding ASFA paperwork peculiarities.

Many other club members and friends made our trial on Sunday go very smoothly indeed. I want to particularly mention Paula Rickert and Frank Herald both of whom went well above and beyond duty. Paula was trial chairman and did her usual smooth job keeping the field running properly. Frank Herald was equipment master having picked up the equipment a week or so before the trial, upgrading pretty much everything and delivering it to the trial. Many others pitched in throughout the day and all these efforts were very much appreciated. The trial couldn't have happened without this participation!

Fifteen dogs passed the AKC Junior Courser test including whippets Lace, Bessie, Scout,and Oz. Ridgebacks Dax, Yoshi and Chance also picked up a leg as did Ibizan Hounds Stryder, Ringo, Zipper, Dancer, Tea and Coffee. Irish Wolfhound Gracie and Scottish Deerhound Nick rounded out the successful JC test list.
